For the past three years, members of the Yellow Rose Chapter of EGA in Houston, Texas have been stitching “kissing pillows” for the children and loved ones of the soldiers in the Houston-based 75th Division of the U.S. Army Reserve. By the end of October 2006, they had delivered 680 pillows to their Family Readiness Coordinator and they are begging for more and asking them to never stop stitching them. These “kissing pillows” have been wildly received by servicemen and women and their families. Word is spreading and chapters are receiving requests for pillows from all over the United States. As more service personnel have deployed,
those left behind want to hold onto something in their place. These little pillows seem to be filling the need. Soldiers are telling their friends, family members are showing other family members, and the requests for these pillows are heartbreaking. Alabama Chapter is stepping up to provide pillows to units at Redstone Arsenal, including separated families who don’t necessarily have units directly associated with Redstone. This effort is being coordinated through Army Community Service (ACS) and Family Readiness on Redstone. Recently, Alabama Chapter sent 900 pillows to Ft. Hood, TX for use by military families. This is an ongoing effort and we are still collecting pillows for distribution thru ACS. Let's add one or more that you have stitched!
